A Year In The Life Of...

Just for fun, I thought I'd take you through a year in the life of the Temple's and Mitchell's.

This is what 2012 held for us.

January

2012 did not exactly start off on a good note... in the evening of January 6, 2012 I received a panicked phone call from my Dad to tell me that their garage had caught fire and burned to the ground.  Thankfully nobody was hurt and the house only suffered minor damages.  I will not forget having to call my Mom at work that night to tell her what had happened.  They lost everything in the garage, including their new boat and trailer and my 2006 Saturn that was parked in front of the garage.  They would've lost their Tundra if Dad had not gone into the fire and drove it out, suffering only a burn to the forehead and the front end of the truck melting.  It's taken 1 full year to buy all of the things they lost including another new boat!  It's also taken 1 full year to complete rebuilding the garage and it's not completely finished yet.  The garage burning down has caused nothing but heartache and headaches and we hope that nobody ever has to go through that situation ever.

On January, 11, 2012 we celebrated Nixon's 1st birthday.  It's amazing how fast our puppy turned into a 110lb horse!  We could not imagine our lives without Nixon!

January 18, 2012 marked 2 significant days in our life.  2 years had gone by since Chad's death so Travis and I went out for dinner and a drink to celebrate an amazing life lived instead of mourning at home.  We miss Chad every day and he plays a huge role in our lives in so many different ways.  This day also meant that 1 year had gone by since we moved in Chad's house in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.  Moving to Alberta and living in Chad's house was one of the best and most difficult decisions we ever made.  We wouldn't be where we are today had we not made that move.

February

Thankfully, February was a quiet month for us.

On February 6, 2012, Travis started working in Calgary which lasted for 3 months.  He worked Monday-Friday and typically travelling from Sylvan to Calgary early Monday mornings to be at work for 8am and he would come home Friday evenings.  There was a lot of travelling done in 3 months!

We enjoyed some time in Banff with friends of ours, did a little shopping and a little skiing and on February 20, 2012 I crossed one off my bucketlist.  We went horseback riding in the mountains, just outside of Banff at Rafter 6 Ranch Resort.  It was a beautiful, mild day with fresh snow on the ground, perfect for a first time rider!  This was also the day that my brother called me to tell me that he was finally in a relationship with Allie Vincent... after years of telling them they should be together!

Mom and Dad came for a visit in Sylvan on February 21, 2012 for one night and one day before flying out for their trip to Hawaii which included visiting the islands of Maui and Kauai.  They had the best trip of their lives and everytime they called us, they sounded like 2 kids at Disney Land!

March

On March 23, 2012 we headed to Sparwood, BC to visit Barb and Scotty and Bob and Maggie also made the drive out to join us!  It was a great long weekend!

March 28, 2012 marked our 2 year anniversary which seems crazy in the sense that our relationship moved so quickly in the beginning.

At the end of March, Travis and I made the decision that I would start looking for a new job which meant a huge career change for me.  Things weren't going well at the funeral home I was working at and it was making our home life pretty miserable.

April

On April 4, 2012, I had my first job interview at the Red Deer County Center.  I ended up not getting the job due to lack of experience but was informed that another job was being posted within a couple weeks that they wanted me to apply for.

Near the end of March, Travis and I decided that we wanted to purchase a bumper pull camper.  This was a big decision for us, as it was the first major purchase that we would make together!  It all happened pretty quickly and on April 23, 2012 we made an offer on a 2004 27' Travelaire Travel Trailer.  They accepted our offer and that was that.  The camper would soon be our summer home!

May

May marked the best month of the year for us.  On May 10, 2012 we flew to Winnipeg to spend Mother's Day weekend with both sets of parents.  May 10, 2012 was also the day I had another job interview with Red Deer County.  On Sunday, May 13, 2012 ~ Mother's Day ~ Travis proposed to me in my parents' driveway.  As this may not sound romantic to most, it was most certainly the most special moment of my life.  I turned around to find Travis on one knee and thought he fell, only to see the ring box in his hand.  He managed to muster a few words through tears and trembling.  It was such a genuine and sweet proposal.  Of course I said yes!  Then, after standing there for a few minutes, giggling and shaking, we decided we should tell our family who happened to be sitting in the yard, oblivious to what had just happened!  I wouldn't have changed a thing and I was so thankful to be able to share the moments after the big question with our parents and Keith and Allie!

We decided that June 1, 2013 would be the day we would officially commit our lives to each other and share that day with all our family and friends in Winnipeg at St. Boniface Golf Club.

On May 16, 2012 I accepted a job offer with Red Deer County Center for Planning and Development Support Assistance which would allow me to work Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm and have every holiday off!  I also gave my resignation at the funeral home this day.

On May 18, 2012 we set out on our first camping trip in our new camper!  It was a great weekend and would be the first of many camping weekends to come!  It was also a huge learning curve for us and is ultimately a huge task to go camping and be prepared for all situations!  We worked really well together and would soon learn how much easier it would get to go camping as summer went on.

May 30, 2012 marked my last day working at the funeral home which was a huge change for me as I had been working in the funeral industry since I was in highschool, but I knew I had to do what was best for myself, my health and my relationship with Travis.

June

On June 6, 2012, I flew to Winnipeg for 5 days to start with the wedding planning before starting my new job.  That weekend, I was able to reserve the wedding day (June 1, 2013), book the venue (St. Boniface Golf Club), book the Pastor who will marry us (Pastor Paul Winter), find the bridesmaids dresses and almost find my dress!  It was a very successful weekend with much thanks to Mom and Allie for helping me through it all!

On June 11, 2012, I started my new job at Red Deer County.

On June 23, 2012, I found my wedding dress which I would later purchase in September.

On June 24, 2012 we had our Engagement Photoshoot which turned out to be a really fun afternoon with great results!

July

On July 3, 2012 we celebrated Travis' 26th birthday and went camping the weekend before.

On July 6, 2012 Keith celebrated his 26th birthday!

On July 12, 2012 we had very special visitors come to Sylvan Lake all the way from Woodstock, Ontario.  Jeff, Joanna, Ryley and Landon made the long trek to Alberta to have Ryley participate in the 2012 Summer Transplant Games in Calgary.  They spent the weekend with us in Sylvan and we were able to take them to our favourite camping spot for an "outdoor wilderness adventure" as Joanna called it.  It was a blast to show them what real camping is all about and the kids had tons of fun!

For those of you who don't know... Jeff is my dad's first cousin and his daughter Ryley had a heart transplant when she was 7 months old... she is now 7!

On July 19, 2012 we made our way to Calgary to watch the Transplant Games and stayed in our camper at Calaway Park (A first for us to ever stay in a campground that we had to pay for!)

On July 20, 2012 we went to Banff with the crew which was a great experience.  There is nothing like showing people the beautiful Rocky Mountains when they've never seen anything like it!

On July 21, 2012 we were fortunate to attend the closing ceremonies of the Transplant Games.  It was an absolute honour to sit in a room with so many transplant recipients that were so full of life and energy.  As soon as dinner was over and the music started, you couldn't make enough room on the dance floor for everyone and you couldn't get them off the dance floor until the music stopped.  They truly live life to the fullest and enjoy every second of it!

August

August was a very quiet month for us but it marked the 9th time we went camping!  We definitely made lots of use of our camper.  We had decided when we bought it that we would be happy if we could use it 5 times.

September

On September 8, 2012, friends of ours, Patrick Hetherington and Allison Miller said their "I Dos" and we were thankful to be able to enjoy their day with them!  It was a beautiful wedding ceremony, short and sweet and Allison was a gorgeous bride!

On September 18, 2012 Mom came to Sylvan Lake for a visit and to help with the wedding planning!  We were able to go dress shopping together and she was finally able to see for the first time the dress that I had chosen.  We worked on all kinds of stuff, attended our first ever bridal show and I appreciated so much, her being able to come out to help and keep me partially sane!

On September 25, 2012, I start the Temple of Love Blog!

On September 27, 2012 we ordered my wedding dress!

October

On October 6, 2012, we celebrated my 24th birthday at Crescent Falls, just passed Nordegg, Alberta which was amazing!

On October 7, 2012, we left Alberta on another trek back to Manitoba to spend some time with Bob and Maggie in Waskada before we headed to Winnipeg for Bob's bypass surgery.

On October 9, 2012 we attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Chad Temple Play Park in Waskada, Manitoba.  It was a tearful and joyful day for us to be able to attend this event and see how many people helped and came out to support the Play Park.  We hope that it is a fun and safe place that we can someday take our future children too and explain to them why this park exists and how much their Uncle Chad was truly loved!

On October 11, 2012, Bob had his surgery and did amazingly well!  He started a speedy recovery in the hospital and was soon driving back to Waskada to get better at home!  We hope that this is something nobody in our family ever has to go through again and we truly want to promote healthy living and eating to everyone!

On Tuesday, October 16, 2012 my brother asked Allie Vincent for her hand in marriage!  We could not be more excited for them to spend the rest of their lives together.  They make a great couple and we're sure they will have a wonderful future together!  They will be getting married on March 28, 2014 in Las Vegas which will mark mine and Travis' 4 year anniversary!

At the end of October, on October 27, 2012, I crossed another thing off my bucketlist!  I flew to Victoria, BC to spend a long weekend with Gramma and family.  It was an amazing trip, short and sweet, filled with fun and memories!

November

Three days after coming back from Victoria, BC, on November 1, 2012 I had 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted.  It was a painful and dreadful way to start the month.  It meant being off work for 8 days.  I endured excruciation pain, inability to eat and sleep and control the pain.  I never thought this surgery could have such a long recovery time.  I don't wish that upon anyone!

On November 17, 2012 after finally feeling better after my surgery, Travis and I decided that we needed a night away so we got a suite at the Holiday Inn Express in Calgary and just had a fun quiet weekend together and were able to pick our wedding bands!

December

And then all of a sudden it was December.  It's amazing how 12 months flies by and how much happens in that amount of time.  Our biggest decision of December was trying to decide what to do for Christmas... finally... after much deliberation... we decided that we would stay in Sylvan Lake for year 2 and have Bob, Maggie, Barb and Scotty join us again.  This would allow my parents to spend a quiet Christmas alone in Winnipeg, probably their first Christmas alone ever!

On December 15, 2012, we attended the Sanjel Christmas Party at the Sheraton which hotel which was a wonderful evening of great food and good company!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AND MAY 2013 BE YOUR BEST YEAR YET!

Love from Christine & Travis & Nixon

Friday Before The Holidays

Well it's finally the Friday before Christmas Holidays officially begin!

It's been the longest work week ever and today will by far be the longest work day ever!

Travis and I are officially ready for our Christmas visitors to show up and are getting excited.

We are starting our weekend off with a lunch with some friends of mine that work/worked at the funeral home.  It will be great to catch up!

On a subject completed unrelated to Christmas, for those of you who aren't aware, my job at Red Deer County is a temporary position covering a maternity leave.  After being here for just over 6 months, it seems that an opportunity might arise for me to become a permanent employee which would be a great way to start the new year.  It would be nice to have some peace of mind knowing that I won't possibly lose my job around the same time as the wedding.  Unfortunately, this means that one of my current coworkers is taking a new position elsewhere and we will definitely miss him.  I wish him nothing but the best in his new endeavour.  Much like me, he was born in Ontario, moved to Manitoba and then ventured to Alberta so we have a lot in common!

Other than that, there is nothing new in our little world.

Have a great and safe weekend and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year if I don't blog before then.

Check back on New Year's Eve for my Year in the Life of the Temple/Mitchell's post.

Click the Button... Damnit!

Last night, I finally clicked the button and ordered our wedding invitations!

For some reason, I found it so difficult to just bite the bullet and order them!  I guess I'm afraid that they will arrive and won't be just perfect and that I might have to start all over again!  But I think they will be great and I'm looking forward to receiving them by the end of the week or next week!

On the bright side, it's Tuesday and there's only 3 more work days left.  Today, I'm donating blood which I think is a great way to give life, especially during the holidays!

The Countdown Is On...

I can't believe we are only one week away from Christmas Eve.

Travis and I are looking forward to having a few days off over the holidays and enjoying the company of Bob, Maggie, Barb and Scotty for at least a few days!  We are expecting everyone to show up by Sunday evening.  We just have a few little things to get ready around the house, some wrapping and a little bit of cooking and baking and we will be all ready for what should be a quiet and easy Christmas Holiday.

Friday night, Travis and I were being lazy and couldn't decide what to do with ourselves and I was getting pretty tired of laying on the couch watching TV, so I decide we needed to do anything but that.  We decide to hop in my car, which Travis graciously took to have washed and gassed up that day, went to McDonald's for hot chocolates and drove around Sylvan Lake for a couple hours looking at Christmas lights.  It was a great way to spend some time together, Nixon included and just get out!

We had a great time at the Sanjel Christmas Party on Saturday.  I can honestly say that it was one of the funnest nights I've had in a long time.  The food was great, music was good and we walked away with a nice little Christmas bonus. :)

Travis is working in Calgary for the next 3 days, which gives me a few days of light, healthy eating and exercise to lose the weight I gained this weekend... grr.  Drinking (which is rare for me these days) and eating lots food, did not help our waistlines this weekend.  But despite our hangovers, my throat infection and Travis' pulled groin, we still went for a walk last night which was nice!

Best of luck to everyone that is still doing last minute Christmas shopping and preperations!

Old Love

I just wanted to share a little story from work.

I met an older couple in July at the Planning & Development desk who applying for a permit to build a new home which happens to be just a few minutes from where we live.  They've been a few times for various reasons and they are truly friendly and kind people who clearly have been married for more years than I've been alive and always come in together!

I drive by their new house every day on my way from work, so when they come in, I love to talk to them about how it's coming along and the details of it because from the road it looks like a beautiful home!  They love to brag about their home, but in the most modest way and they always tell me to stop in and see it, they would love to show me the progress.  Unfortunately they won't be moved into their house before Christmas like they hoped but they are in good spirits about it and are looking forward to moving in in January!

So I plan on going to visit them someday so they can show me their new beautiful home and I plan on bringing Travis so he can meet this lovely couple and the husband can show Travis his HUGE shop!

Seeing them again today and how smitten they are when I remember their names and everything about them just brightened my day!

There's just nothing like "Old Love"

My Friday!

Good afternoon followers!

I'm sorry that it's Thursday for most of you but it's my Friday and I'm pretty happy about it!

We have the Sanjel Christmas party to look forward to on Saturday night and a quiet weeked otherwise!  Travis is also off tomorrow... actually... Travis hasn't really worked at all this month and will only work a couple more days before the New Year!  Apparently that's what happens when you don't take your vacation time throughout the year, you take all of December off!

We'd like to wish a very happy 4th birthday to our favourite little man Merrick who celebrated his birthday on 12/12/12!  Merrick is our friends' son, who we've had the pleasure of watching grow up for the past 2 years.  Travis loves Merrick and hopes that we can have a son someday that's half as cool as him!  He also has a major soft spot for Merrick's little sister Lauren who just turned 1 in November.

Nordic Love....

Another work day almost over!

I recently realized how much I L-O-V-E anything with a Nordic print.  I would love anything with this type of print on it!  Maybe I should've mentioned that earlier than 2 weeks before Christmas!

At Last...

At last... I think my rain cloud has cleared and all is well and back to normal.

We finally found bedding for our new king sized bed this weekend and are quite pleased with our choice, although it was no easy task... Travis learned that very quickly.

We also got a few things done around the house that we've been meaning to do for the past two years which is great and will be helpful when company comes for Christmas.

I got some gifts wrapped and ready to mail to Winnipeg last night and Travis is shipping them off today! Check!

Today, I finally placed the orders for our wedding bands and they should arrive in the new year, along with my dress and the bridesmaids dresses hopefully.  We will get right back on track with the wedding planning as soon as Christmas is over and probably check off a few things from the list before then!

This week, we have a few things to do around the house, gifts to wrap, a few more decorations to set out, some cooking and baking to do and then we will be all ready for Bob, Maggie, Barb and Scotty to grace us with their presence.

We are also looking forward to the Sanjel Christmas Party on Saturday at the Sheraton in Red Deer.

So much to do and so little times.  I can't believe 2012 is almost over!

Monday is more than half over so you can look forward to your evening, as crazy as it may be!

Dream Getaway & Logo Contest

Well it's Friday! Finally.  And I can honestly say that I'm not looking forward to the weekend.  Sad... I know.

I'd like to go to a place like this and stay in it from now until Monday morning when I have to go work.

Maybe tonight I will be announced the winner of a contest that our dog boarding facility was holding.  We take Nixon to a place called Freedom House when we are away and he loves it and we love picking him up and he's completely exhausted for at least 2 days.

Freedom House was holding a contest for people to create a new business logo for them and there would be a chance to win a $1500.00 prize pack.  I was originally going to do it when I first saw the post and then decided not too... until... I saw some of the entries on Facebook and cringed at the fact that they might use some of these "logos" for their business.

This was my entry:

It's nothing extraordinary, but compared to the other entries, I'd say it's awesome!
So maybe I'll win the contest and can sleep better at night knowing a 4 year old didn't create their business logo.

I will keep you posted if I win.

Until then... Have a good weekend and be safe.

Intuition and Truth

"We think of intuition as a magical phenomenon—but hunches are formed out of our past experiences and knowledge. So while relying on gut feelings doesn't always lead to good decisions, it's not nearly as flighty a tactic as it may sound."

I feel like it's been raining on me for about 2 weeks now and it won't stop.

I've always been very "inuitive."  I get feelings about certain situations or people, and I get them often.  I usually think that my intuition is a good thing and that it help protect me from bad things to come or being around bad people, but recently, I'm realizing that my intuition doesn't always help me and sometimes it causes larger than life problems.

There's nothing worse than finding out the truth behind a lie, no matter how big or small.

Even though telling the truth isn't always easy, I definitely believe it's always the best policy and that in the end it's easier to deal with the truth rather than a lie.

This post won't make sense to most of you and that's okay, but for me, it's a way of expressing myself.

Brr...

Happy Tuesday Followers!

It seems I skipped Monday, it was a busy day!

It's definitely a cold winter here in Alberta.  But this photo should warm us up!

Wouldn't this be awesome!

I spent the weekend doing not much of anything other than trying to decide where we want to go for our honeymoon.  Apparently it's a very difficult decision to make!
Who would've thought?

I can't believe the wedding is only 6 months away!

In other news... Keith and Allie announced their wedding date which thrills me to not end!

March 28, 2014

Which happens to be our anniversary.  Travis and I will have been together for 4 years on the day that Keith marries his best friend Allie!  And less than 2 weeks later, Mom and Dad will celebrate their wedding anniversary, hopefully Vegas style, just like they did for their honeymoon!

Exciting times are definitely ahead of us and I can't wait for all of it!

Have a great day.  Stay warm if you are in Alberta and stay dry if you are in Timmins!

Christmas "Dream List"

Being that's it's the last day of November and it's
Friday, I feel like I can now get into the Christmas spirit.

December 1st is the first day that I think it's acceptable to plug in your Christmas lights, you can now set up your tree and decorate your home, start wrapping any gifts that you've bought or all of them if you are like me and it's okay to start listening to the occasional Christmas tune.

This weekend, I plan on wrapping all the Christmas presents, maybe setting up the Christmas tree and doing the house decorations.  I should be well prepared for our company during the holidays and still be able to continue wedding planning in the meantime!

So just for fun and with no expectations, I thought I would post my Christmas Dream List:

Nixon Small Player Watch in Rosegold

Dakine Luggage Set in Flourish or Vienna Print... not specifically these ones, but similar

Happy Camper Bedding Collection from Bass Pro Shop... or similar... for the camper!

Pyrex Glass Storage... I want to get rid of all my plastic storage

Happy Friday and Last Day of November!
Have a good weekend, keep warm and drive safe!

Tuesday 27 November 2012

The Week From Hell... and it's only Tuesday.

Today, my mom said that bad things come to me in 3's.  I said what if a 4th bad thing happens?  She said then you start counting to 3 again!

So anyway, it seems I'm on a streak of bad luck.

NUMBER ONE

This started yesterday, I had a day off from work and I was looking forward to getting all my Christmas shopping done... which lucky for me, I did!  It took me 6 hours, lots of patience and determination, but I finished all of our shopping!  And to top it off, I was really excited to find new bedding for our new king sized bed, which was a big feat!

So I got home last night after shopping and was excited to put the new bedding on our bed.  I took it all out of the packaging, made sure it fit properly, washed it and was ready to put it all together!  But then I found a tear in the fitted sheet and to top it off, the fitted sheet no longer fit on the bed, despite me washing it as per the washing instructions on the label.

So, being who I am, I got completely frustrated.  I spent so much time trying to find bedding that I liked, finally found it and it doesn't work out!

So now I've ordered new bedding online and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail!

NUMBER TWO

Nixon woke me up at 4:30am, crying at the door to go out, so I let him out and he had a barking fit outside so I made him come inside.  I should mention, he rarely ever barks.  He ran inside the house and went straight to the living room window where he continued his barking fit... turns out there was a deer in front of the house.  He continued whining every half hour until 6:20am when I realized something wasn't quite right.  I jumped out of bed only to find out that Nixon had an accident in our living room on the carpet.  I should also mention he hasn't had any accidents since he was a baby.  So I spent an hour trying to get the stain out of the carpet and the smell out of the house, was late for work and then felt horrible having to leave Nixon home alone all day.

NUMBER THREE

I got an email from our wedding venue this afternoon and the prices have increased!  Not impressed with this and want other people that are planning to know that this is very likely to happen to you too!  So don't necessarily choose based on the prices they show you because within a year of planning, they are sure to increase.  Be careful.

~~~
So here's hoping that this streak is over and things look up from here.
American Thanksgiving
Happy American Thanksgiving!
I am thankful that there is only one work day left this week and that I have Monday off!
I am thankful for great friends, like Leigh and Tammy and their beautiful children Merrick and Lauren who invited us for supper after their friends bailed on them! :)  We are thankful that despite being their backburner friends, they still treat us like family... or maybe even better than family! ;)
I am also thankful that there was only popcorn on their dining room table and floor last night and not mine! :)
And I would be thankful if somebody brought me a perfectly delicious cupcake to brighten my dreary mood!
Sore Is The New Sexy
It's finally Wednesday!
It feels like another long week of cold, snowy weather and too much to do without enough time to do it all.
Travis has been working extremely hard at losing weight and getting healthy and is doing an amazing job and I couldn't be more proud of him.
I've been working at maintaining my weight and hoping to lose just a few lbs in the next little while.
So we've been working as a team, and despite our weekend of indulging in Calgary, we've been doing great at eating well and exercising every day!
The past few days, Travis has said he's been feeling sore and today I found this picture...
Just a little daily motivation to keep us going and work through it!
Happy Wednesday Everyone!
Decisions and King Sized Princess Beds
Good Morning Followers!
I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, it was a very busy day from 7:00am until after 11:00pm when I finally stopped working on wedding stuff.
I'm happy to say that Travis and I had a wonderful weekend in Calgary.  It was more or less a relaxing stress free weekend but we were happy to come home and pick up Nixon and take him home for a quiet evening of lounging on the couch watching TV.
On a plus side and downside, Travis is starting a new rotation tomorrow starting with a 15 and 6 and then he'll be in the office for a couple weeks and then back to 15 and 6.
It will be great to have him back in the field making job bonuses but hard to have him away again, although we think this is the best of both worlds and I think he will feel much more satisfied with his work on this rotation.  Here's hoping that this work rotation is a great option for us! :)
Books For Tall People
HAPPY FRIDAY!
It's the end of the week and we have lots to be thankful for... well two things... Saturday & Sunday!
I'm posting this picture for my wonderful fiance who is a full foot taller than me!  This means that I have to wear really high heels for the wedding so that I don't get lost in the pictures!
Speaking of wedding shoes, I ordered what I hope to be my wedding shoes last night and I can't wait to get them!
Travis and I are extremely looking forward to heading to Calgary tomorrow for the evening!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Improvising... For Short People & Wedding Planning For Dummies
Good Afternoon... or should I say boring afternoon!
Travis and I have been living in the dark for quite some time now... most of the lightbulbs in the house have burnt out and we haven't replaced them.
Until now...
I needed a little vertical assistance due to vaulted ceilings and being 5'4'', so out came the step ladder, which just didn't cut it.  So what better way to add a couple inches than to use Travis' university text books (money well spent)!
p.s. Obviously 6'4'' Travis wasn't home, otherwise I would've had him do it.
It's borderline unbearably bright in the kitchen now but we see the light!
~~~~~

Last night I was wonderfully productive on the wedding front which pleases me to no end!

I really got a glimpse of the decor starting to come together and I am thrilled about it!
Some things truly turn out better than you imagine.

On a side wedding note...

Christine's Suggestion:

ELOPE!

Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more than a big beautiful wedding shared with all our family and friends and I wouldn't change the way we are doing things, although it has crossed my mind several (million) times.

Full blown traditional weddings are extremely expensive and time consuming and when you have a "slight" case of OCD, it triples the time consumption.

Now keeping in mind that I have already completed a ton of stuff, today I create a 6 page long (typed) to-do/check list and I'm certain that there's lots that didn't get on there.  Just so that you have an idea of how much planning goes into a wedding.

For all newly engaged brides and anticipating brides, you may want to rethink what you really want for your wedding, think about how much time and money you are willing and/or capable of investing.

Most of all, I wish you best of luck in all your own wedding planning!

Back on Track

I can't believe it's been 6 days since I updated the blog.

I am finally back to work this week after more than a week off for recovery.  I'm feeling much better and glad that the worst is over.

My Dad was in for Room and Board on Monday night which was a nice pick me up!

Travis and I are in the thick of wedding planning lately... mostly me... but Travis gets stuck doing stuff every now and then!

Let's just say he's been learning new skills in the garage to help make my... I mean "Our" wedding day vision come true!  So far so good!

It seems we can't keep our feet on the ground so we're off to Calgary this coming Saturday for the night.  This weekend will include staying in a nice hotel room, ordering my wedding band, hopefully finding a wedding band for Travis and a little bit of mindless shopping, good food and good times.  This also means that Nixon gets to spend the night at Freedom House and play with other dogs for 2 days!

On the bright side of things, it's the middle of the week and the end of the working day so get your happy face on, go home and enjoy a beautiful Wednesday evening with the ones you love or doing something you love... you probably deserve it!

I found this picture this week and thought it was just adorable!
I hope this is what my future holds! <3

Picture This...

Please Note... I do not write for sympathy, just for sanity.

It's 2:01am, Thursday, November 8, 2012 and I am blogging because obviously I cannot sleep.

I'm laying on our love seat couch in the living room eating Premium Plus Salted Top Soda Crackers with a microwaveable bean bag wrapped around my face.

Here's the the specific facts:

* The couch seems to be the most comfortable place for to sleep and rest
* The couch is where I don't disturb Travis' sleep... or Nixon's
* I'm not so much eating crackers as I am letting them melt on my tongue then swallowing them to prevent getting them in my open sockets and because chewing hurts
* I'm eating the crackers in hopes that they help relieve my nausea which I've had consistently for 7 days
* The bean bag that I have wrapped around my face was lovingly made for me by my grandmother
(Grand-Maman) probably 10 years ago or more.
* This bean bag was thoughtfully made from hippie VW beetle fabric because at the time I was obsessed with vintage VW beetles.
* The bean bag has been my only form of pain relief (or temporary distraction from pain) since Thursday.

It has now been 7 days since the surgery and I have not made any progress in feeling better.  I write this because so many people said to me "oh you'll be fine", "just a couple days", etc.  Only one person was kind enough to tell me about her bad experience prior to my surgery and it wasn't until after my surgery that people starting telling me their bad experiences.  I'm a realist and I'm honest.  Let's not beat around the bush.

Recovery from any surgery is different for every single person, some heal quick and some heal slow, there are many factors involved.  Hope for the best but expect the worst, that way you aren't blindsided when the worst happens.

It's hard to explain to people that such a simple surgery can take so long to recover from.  My soon-to-be father-in-law had quadruple by-pass surgery exactly 4 weeks ago and is recovering amazing well, better than me who only had 4 teeth removed.

Again, I do not write for sympathy, it's the last thing in the world that I want.  I just hope that people understand and don't judge.

Hopefully this is goodnight and I can fall asleep soon.
